Virginia is the Communications Specialist at Open Future. She brings over a decade of experience working at the intersection of technology, human rights, and culture. With a passion for using communications strategies to amplify diverse voices, she has dedicated her career to driving social change in the non-profit sector.
Virginia graduated with a degree in Business Administration, specializing in Marketing and Communications. She began her professional journey at a technology company in the tourism industry, where she worked in Nice and Madrid, developing internal and external communication campaigns on a global scale. During this time, she connected with a group of engineers and developers who shared her passion for free software and culture.
In 2014, Virginia earned a Master’s Degree in Economics of Culture and Cultural Management from the University of Valladolid. She co-directed the ccVAD Valladolid Creative Commons Film Festival and designed informative exhibitions, such as Software Cultural, as part of the European cultural cooperation project CREART: Network of Cities for Artistic Creation. In 2016, she was selected by the Fundación Banco Santander as part of the “Emplea Cultura” initiative to manage communications and support cultural mediation projects.
In 2017, Virginia joined Wikimedia España as the communications manager, focusing on the role of open knowledge in promoting human rights. Her responsibilities included creating workshops and amplifying the voices of various stakeholders, public institutions, and civil society initiatives in the digital space. She worked to foster a culture of data verification to combat disinformation on Wikipedia and advocated for the preservation of digital cultural heritage through public policy. Additionally, she monitored and informed about the European Digital Single Market Directive.
Virginia completed a postgraduate degree in Techno-politics and Human Rights in the Digital Age from the University of Barcelona in 2021. Her expertise in internet governance has enabled her to communicate methodologies that promote open and accessible cultural projects.
