Digital Commons EDIC announces leadership and initial projects

March 31, 2026

The Digital Commons EDIC—a European Digital Infrastructure Consortium established to enable Member States to collaborate on shared digital infrastructure—has announced its founding leadership as well as its first set of initiatives.

A press release from the Sovereign Tech Agency reports that Laurent Rojey has been appointed as Director of the DC EDIC, with Art de Blaauw as Chair and Luise Hölscher and Serafino Sorrenti as Vice-Chairs of the Assembly of Members.

Alongside the leadership announcements, the DC EDIC has unveiled its first projects. These include a “100 Day Challenge” to build sovereign and interoperable open source components, and a pilot of a European Sovereign Tech Fund (EU-STF). The EU-STF pilot has been developed in collaboration with the German Sovereign Tech Agency, exploring how its model can be applied at the European level to strengthen critical open digital infrastructure.

The DC EDIC was established in October 2025 following approval by the European Commission, initially comprising five countries: France, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, and Luxembourg. A further eleven countries and regions have since joined as observers—Slovenia, Poland, Hungary, Denmark, Austria, Finland, and Flanders (Belgium). The Consortium remains open to additional members.
