Meet Jan Krewer, our new Senior Policy Analyst

We are pleased to announce that Jan Krewer has joined Open Future as a Senior Policy Analyst. Jan will strengthen our work on Digital Commons and lead our activities related to the Next Generation Internet (NGI) Commons project.

With a decade of experience as a policy advisor, Jan has a track record of designing multi-stakeholder consultation processes, drafting policy papers and regulatory proposals, and managing policy projects and public outreach. Previously a Policy Analyst and Deputy Secretary General of the French Digital Council, Jan has contributed to policies promoting open access, open data, free software, and the protection of the public domain. Jan has also been involved in the Council’s work on EU data regulations and the French artificial intelligence strategy. He later supported an alliance of African states on data protection or the federation and interoperability of digital identities.

Jan’s enthusiasm for Digital Commons was set off during his master’s in international public management at Sciences Po in Paris when he started exploring how digital technologies transform global structures for information sharing and learning. Since then, he has consistently published policy papers discussing alternatives to the structural centralization of the digital economy and online environment. As an independent consultant, Jan collaborated with various organizations, including the German development cooperation agency GIZ, the Mozilla Foundation, and the French Development Agency (AFD), on mobilizing communities and Digital Commons to achieve sustainable development goals.
