On 15 October 2022 at 19:00 CEST, at the 2022 edition of the Freedom Games (Lodz and online, 14-16 October), Alek moderated the panel “Information Flows, Data Trusts and Privacy Enhancing Technologies.”
Part of the broad RadicalxChange program stream at the Freedom Games “21st Century Infrastructure: From State Capacity to Shared Capacity,” the panel focused on novel data governance entities like data cooperatives and data trusts, which are pluralistic, privacy-friendly and democratize data governance. And asked what legal and technological conditions are needed for them to thrive in the digital environment.
Alek facilitated the discussions among the panelists Sylvie Delacroix (University of Birmingham, Alan Turing Institute), Morshed Mannan (European University Institute) and Katarzyna Szymielewicz (Panoptykon Foundation).
A few days later, on 18 October, Alek joined the “User Agency and Democratic Data Governance” at RadicalxChange Warsaw: Europe and the Future of Pluralism panel.
Together with Joanna Rutkowska (Golem Foundation, Wildland), Sille Sep (MyData), Katarzyna Szymielewicz (Panoptykon Foundation), Alek discussed new paradigms for data governance in view of the dialectic between two opposite approaches: the one calling for individual control of data and the one understanding data as commons.
